The Gold Rush Land Cruise crosses the traditional territories of several First Nations. We encourage travellers to approach these lands with curiosity, humility, and respect. The following notes are educational context — not a substitute for visiting museums, cultural centres, and community-led experiences along the route.
The Fraser River has been the lifeblood of Stó:lō communities for thousands of years. Travellers can learn about fishing traditions, longhouse culture, and ongoing stewardship at regional cultural centres and museums along the route.
The Secwépemc Nation has stewarded the lakes, rivers, and grasslands of the Interior for generations. The area’s traditional ecological knowledge continues to shape land-use and conservation conversations today.
Lillooet sits at a traditional crossroads of salmon-fishing, trade, and travel. The St’át’imc have deep connections to the Fraser River canyons and alpine resources of the region.
These northern Cariboo lands include the traditional territories of the Tsilhqot’in and Dakelh peoples. Their histories of horse culture, trail networks, and river travel parallel and predate the Gold Rush era.
Cruise Inn Canada is committed to working with Indigenous tourism organizations to ensure cultural content is accurate, respectful, and community-guided.
